POLICE are urging vigilance after a woman, from Penarth, with alzheimers was approached by "rogue traders" recently.

The incident occurred on Thursday, last week, and comes amid a spate of incidents in south Wales which has sparked a police appeal.

The woman was approached by two men who tried to persuade her to have her patio worked on.

Chief inspector Lisa Gore, said: "These people prey on the vulnerable.

"It just goes to show the brazenness of rogue traders - we were out along with every police force across the country only last week to make a statement against this type of crime."

Officers and staff from partner organisations including Trading Standards, Natural Resources Wales, Department of Work and Pensions, HMRC, and Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, together with specialist departments within South Wales Police, recently carried out a range of activities including commercial vehicle checks, street visits and calling on banks and post offices.

Officers have also visited care homes, leisure centres, community centres, and doctors surgeries to spread crime prevention messages to elderly people and those who look after them.
