DINAS Powys Community Council has elected a new chairwoman at its annual general meeting.

Councillor Margaret Hayley is the 122nd person to take on the role.

She takes over from cllr Keith Hatton who held the position for the 2015/2016 year.

Cllr Robertson proposed cllr Hayley as the new chair.

Cllr Hayley was born in the village, the youngest daughter of the renowned surgeon Dillwyn Thomas and his wife Susan.

She has enjoyed an illustrious sporting career, representing Wales at tennis and lacrosse and still plays veteran tennis at international level.

Cllr Hayley said that her predecessor will be "difficult to follow" and thanked him for his sound leadership, astuteness and hard work.

She also said the council must try to retain and enhance activities such as care, arts and sport that many in the village benefit from as well as generating income to fund those activities.

Outgoing chairman, cllr Hatton highlighted some of the key issues of his time including the medical centre, the food bank, the Women's Institute defibrillator appeal and working with the Scouts.

He also opened White Gecko Craft Lounge on Camms Corner as well as overseeing the flood lighting of the memorial on the Twyn.

He saw in the provision of the play scheme at the Murchfield and a special tribute in the village to the holiday makers in Tunisia who were brutally murdered.

Cllr Hatton also signed their fair trade status renewal.
