DINAS Powys Voluntary Concern (DPVC) named their volunteers of the year at an event held as a thank you for the team's hard work.

The volunteers joined the trustees of DPVC in the beautiful gardens of former chairman, Dr Joan Andrews. Guests included members of Dinas Powys Open Gardens who are opening their gardens on July 2 and 3 in support of DPVC and Councillor Margaret Hayley, a long-time supporter, who was attending her first event since being elected chairwoman of Dinas Powys Community Council.

DPVC chairman, John Fanshaw, thanked Dr Joan and her team for the excellent lunch and the guests for the dedicated and cheerful support given to the local community.

Volunteers drive and escort the minibus to a supermarket and other activities, drive the VW caddy to and from Dinas Powys Medical Centre, work in the DPVC office, provide practical help, befriend residents and use their own cars for community transport.

This year’s volunteers of the year were Janet and John Flye. Janet is the charity’s volunteer minibus coordinator who ensures that the shopping trips run smoothly and John is a long standing minibus and caddy driver whose additional roles included ensuring that the minibus was always adequately fuelled.

The next DPVC social event is the annual "Strawberry Tea", with the Georgia Jazz Band, at the Lee Hall and Gardens at 2pm on Wednesday, July 13. All are welcome.
