AVIATION enthusiasts from Penarth recently paid visit to an air museum.

On June 9, Penarth Aviation explored Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton on a trip organised by Barrie Howell,

The museum sets out to chart the history of seaborne aviation with a selection of exhibits, some of which are the only example of their type in existence.

The exhibits include a replica of the Short S27, various search and rescue helicopters, aircraft from both world wars, an aircraft carrier experience where the visitor is conducted round the simulated flight deck and control centre of an aircraft carrier.

Members found that the star of the show is undoubtedly Concorde 002, the second prototype and first British built Concorde.

Society member Brian Thomas, who had a large part to play in the Concorde project, was able to provide extra details and snippets that the museum cannot display. Amongst the aircraft in the hall were two experimental delta-winged aircraft built to aid the development of Concorde.

A spokesman for the society said: "With all this to see and explore, the group left the museum having had a truly memorable day's outing."
