SISTERS from Penarth are set to run 10km in memory of their tragic mum.

Emily Kennedy, 27, and Laura Kennedy, 24, from Penarth, are set to run the memory of their mother, Barbara, who died from brain cancer in February this year.

The duo, who are both civil servants in the Welsh Government, and live on Mountjoy Avenue, will run in Cardiff on Sunday (July 17), alongside friends, to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

They have already raised more than £1,300 through their just giving page - dwarfing their original target of £750.

The page says they are fundraising to help change the fortunes of others.

Laura said: "Our mum was a big personality who was loved by many and her passing has left a huge gap in our lives.

"She was unbelievably brave during her short battle with cancer and she always put others before herself.

"We want to honour her memory by running this 10k, which may as well be a marathon as neither of us are runners.

"It’s a way to raise money for a great cause that has helped us during this horrible time."

Her sister, Emily added: “Any support people can give will be greatly welcomed, be it a good luck message or a donation of money.

"This is a disease which is taking the greatest people from us, so any support the charity can get is brilliant."
