A PENARTH family who visited 55 piers across the UK last year are set to take on a new challenge.

Gavin Priestley along with his partner Sam Bell and son Dylan are set to visit racecourses throughout the UK to raise money for The Injured Jockey's Fund and have so far raised £600 before they've even started.

They set out on a 20 day journey last year to visit the 55 piers and raise funds for the RNLI.

They have had a book made detailing their journey with pictures from all the different piers they visited.

And now they've decided to do something similar this summer but instead of piers, they will travel in a hire car to 60 racecourses around the country in the same time frame as they did last year.

They will start at Chepstow and finish at Bath and visit some big meets such as Goodwood on the way.

They leave Penarth on July 21.

Mr Priestley said: "We had so much fun the last time we have decided to do something similar again.

"I have always been into horse racing and run my own betting blog so it seemed the natural progression."

As well as the racecourses, Mr Priestley said he and his family will get the chance to do all sorts of other things on their journey.

They plan on seeing the red arrows in Blackpool, going to a music concert in Newmarket, going to an open air cinema and attending the Bristol Balloon Festival.

He said that this had been a feature of the other trip with Dylan particularly enjoying the mini golf.

Mr Priestley said: "We've had a great response from the courses including donations of raffle prizes and Towcester putting on a sponsored race for us on the dog track."
