MORE than 1,000 people attended Belle Vue Park Music Festival.

The annual event saw people young and old, families, friends and neighbours came together to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment from a selection of bands and singers.

The free community festival was organised by the Friends of Belle Vue Park, with the stage provided by the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the sound by Sound Media Solutions Ltd.

The band Happy Endings - made up mainly of dads of children at Albert school - opened the showcase.

They were followed by Simon Buck and the Ex’s Men who were formed during the Monday open mic nights at Penarth’s Ex-Servicemen's Club.

The Silverbacks were up next and played a cover up 'My Generation', by The Who, while duo Gentlemen Prefer Blondes entertained the crowd with a mixture of old and new songs.

Then came The Snorklers, the only band to play at all eight Music in the Park events.

This year they brought a new set that included The Ramones and Green Day covers, as well as a rendition of The Proclaimers' classic, 500 miles

Albion pub regulars, SOS played a version of Bob Marley’s 'Stir it up', and previous headliners Graffiti kept the dancing going with some cover songs including a version of 'Uptown Funk'.

Then, Lost in Chemistry, who are new to the festival, played a cover of Green Day's ‘American Idiot’.

Smokey Smuthers And The Mellow Fellows also entertained a packed park and the event was finished off by seven piece band, Charlie's Marbles.

Crowd member Elaine Ferrari said: "Thanks to the organisers for a fantastic day, great fun was had by all."

Music organiser Andrew Wigford said: “We hugely appreciate all the efforts of the musicians and support crews to help us make the Belle Vue Music Festival one of the highlights of the Penarth community calendar."

Organisers are keen to keep this a free community event but say it is costly to host.

Chairman of the Friends of Belle Vue Park, Martin Gossage said: "Donations, programme purchases and support from volunteers were hugely appreciated to help us make the day a success."
