AUTHORS from Penarth have co-written a new "gritty" crime novel.

Mike Phillips and Danny Bushell have published Chasing Tigers, the first of a planned trilogy.

The plot moves between Cardiff Bay and London and centres around Nicky Bown's unexpected rise from being a bookmaker's friend to a gangster's right-hand man.

He discovers his girlfriend's sister dead in her apartment and faces the possibility that she may have been murdered, promising to seek revenge if he can prove it.

Mr Phillips is originally from Canton but has lived in Penarth for more than 15 years.

He published his first e-book "Abby & Me" last year and has won a couple of writing competitions in the past.

He has also co-written a couple of television sitcoms with his collaborator, Mr Bushell including one called Waiting for Maud.

Mr Bushell was born and raised in London but moved to Penarth in 2002 and the pair have also collaborated on a number of other writing projects such as the follow up to Chasing Tigers which they are currently working on.

They have received a number of positive reviews from those who've bought the book.

One reader said: "Well written, gripping storyline. Couldn't put it down."

Another added that they have developed: "a mature ability to capture the reader's attention and imagination through a street-life style."

They decided to use Amazon's self-publishing system as a way to "get the book to market quickly and in a cost-effective way."

The book can be downloaded on Amazon Kindle from www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01E3YHCQS.
