A DAD from Penarth has cycled 55 miles to raise money to help fund specialist equipment at his daughter's school.

Matthew Weston, of Tennyson Road, cycled from the Brecon Beacons to Cardiff to help fundraise for Ysgol y Deri to provide specially adapted bikes which all pupils can use.

His eight-year-old autistic daughter, Cody, attends the school and Mr Weston said this was his main motivation for taking on the challenge.

Mr Weston works in Cardiff Bay and cycles there every day.

But he said that he hasn't done any big rides like this before and that the ride on July 2 was very hard.

The ride took him just over five hours to complete and saw him climb a total of 768 metres along the way.

He said: "My daughter goes to the school so that was the main reason for me doing this but the school wants to provide bikes which all the children can use.

"Other than cycling to work I've done no other preparation.

"The ride was very hard going but I am proud that I took part.

"The school told me they are very pleased that I did this."

The school is also hoping to build a sensory race track around the site for pupils to use.

Fundraising is still open and Mr Weston is hoping that people will donate to the worthy cause.

The target is £500 and so far they have raised more than £100 via the online fundraising page.
