RESCUE crews from Penarth rescued a family who had been cut off in the waters near Penarth.

Penarth RNLI and Penarth Coastguard were called out just before 7.20pm on Tuesday, July 19 on the foreshore near the slipway.

Two adults and two children were safely brought ashore and said to be "safe and well."

The RNLI team had been on a training exercise at the time and were also called out to check on a swimmer who was struggling to make it back to shore.

A spokesman for the RNLI said: "The family didn't know of the risks from the incoming tide as they were walking towards Lavernock Point.

"The swimmer swam out to the outer marker bouy and appeared to be making very slow progress back. It was a welfare check."
