A MOTOR racing legend is set to give a talk about his illustrious career at a special event in Penarth next month.

Formula One World Champion Damon Hill will be signing copies of his new autobiography at Glamorganshire Golf Club on Lavernock Road on Monday September 12

His new book, Watching the Wheels, is due to be published 20 years to the month after he followed in his father's footsteps to win the Formula One World Championship.

Mr Hill will be visiting the town to discuss his racing career with BBC Wales motorsport reporter Victoria Turner.

The event has been organised by Penarth bookshop Griffin Books, and begins at 12.30pm.

Griffin Books and Glamorganshire Golf Club will be teaming up for the very first time to host the event.

Both know what it is like to host big names with best selling author Jessie Burton visiting the book shop and cricketers Shane Warne and Ian Botham playing a hole at the golf club earlier this year.

Mel Griffin, owner of Griffin Books said: "On the back of recent successful author events we are being offered increasingly big names.

"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to bring a global superstar of Damon Hill's calibre to Penarth.

"It's also great to be partnering with the Glamorganshire Golf Club for the first time.

"Damon has a really interesting story to tell, so do book early to be sure of getting a place."

General manager of The Glamorganshire Golf Club, Russell Thomas, said: "The club is delighted that Griffin Books chose us to host this very prestigious event.

"To get Damon to visit just three days after the official launch of his new autobiography is a real achievement and there will be many members interested in meeting him."

Tickets are now available from the Windsor Road shop at £28 each, including a two-course lunch, tea or coffee and a signed copy of the book.
