A GROUP of women have raised nearly £6000 for after "baring all" for a charity calendar.

The members of the Marie Curie Penarth Fund Raising Group produced a 2016 calendar which has raised £5592 for the Penarth hospice on Bridgeman Road.

And some of the women got together recently for a celebration and a final photo call to mark the end of the calendar project.

The hospice is close to their hearts as many know people who have been cared for there.

One of their group, Carel Haus who died two years ago, was one such person.

Shellagh Williams is the chair of the fundraising group.

She said that one of the members had the idea but originally the group felt they were too old to do something like this.

But Ms Williams lives next door to Les Humphreys who she knew did photography and he was only too happy to help.

The 12 women posed for the pictures in August last year at venues in Sully and on Marine Parade.

Ms Williams said: "It just went from there really. People became more interested as it went along."

Commenting on the amount raised, she said that it was tremendous and surprising.

She said: "We didn't think we would raise that much money and it was a surprise to us.

"We've all known someone who's been at the hospice and it is such a great local place.

"The more we can do to help them the better."

Les Humphreys who took the photographs for the calendar said: "It was a privilege to work with this group of fun loving and dedicated ladies."

"Everyone was in high spirits. It was quite a feat to bring everyone together but it worked."
