AN AWARD-WINNING actress and producer from Dinas Powys has brought her new comedy drama series to the village.

Lorna Amy Sullivan, who was raised in Dinas Powys, has almost finished filming scenes for her new show, Driving Instructor.

The six-episode series, which is set in The Valleys, was primarily shot in Mountain Ash, with supplementary filming in Dinas Powys.

Miss Sullivan plays Tina Lane - a long suffering driving instructor - in the show.

The former St Cyres pupil, who won a Top Shorts Online Film Festival award for her performance in the short horror Angel of Death, said her new series could be characterised as a similar genre to the hit show Gavin and Stacey.

Scenes were filmed near the community hall in Dinas, and in and around The Star Inn pub.

Miss Sullivan has also set up a production company called Filmnic Studios with fellow producer Nic Thomas, and the pair have shot a 20 minute pilot for Driving Instructor, ready to pitch to television companies.

Miss Sullivan went to London when she was 18 to train in professional musical theatre at The Urdang Academy in London.

She then went on to star in musicals such as Dreamboats and Petticoats before turning her attention to the small screen.

"Having decided to move into television, me and Nic are excited to make this thing our own," she added.

"It is the start of an exciting journey and the fact that we are working in different genres means we have lots to offer."

Miss Sullivan and Mr Thomas' next big project is a documentary called Wales: Histories and Mysteries.
