THE newly-formed Penarth Town Trust is supporting the Penarth Times-backed RNLI fundraising appeal for a new life-saving boat.

The trust has been set up to support projects and services which benefit the town.

It currently consists of councillor Tracey Alexander, architect Chris Loyn and businesswoman Jenny Yeo, from Merchants of Penarth.

Cllr Alexander, the founder of the trust, said the appeal presented the "perfect opportunity" to demonstrate what they are trying to do for the town.

The RNLI have been invited to have their own stand at the town trust-organised Big Lunch being held in Windsor Gardens next month.

The idea behind the event is to attract a database of volunteers and fundraisers to help fund future projects and services in the town.

The RNLI's cause is one such project.

Cllr Alexander said: "We are looking to support services in the town so supporting the RNLI's campaign shows exactly what we are about.

"We hope that if the RNLI has a stall at our event. The will raise money for the appeal and help engage the community."

A spokesman for Penarth RNLI said they welcomed the support of the new town trust.

"Both organisations are focused on supporting our community and we look forward to working together," he added.

"Anything that helps support volunteering in Penarth is to be welcomed.

"Having a network we could draw on and share best practice with is to be welcomed."
