A PENARTH music club will mark its second anniversary with a special DJ set.

Penarth Soul Club marks the milestone on September 17 at the Ex-Servicemen's Club on Windsor Road.

And Plassey Street business Alley Cat have got on board, lending their window space to provide a display about the club.

The past two years have seen sell out crowds for many of the club's events.

Since establishing Penarth Soul Club in 2014, Shelley Barrett-Norton and Liam Curtin have DJ'd at festivals and events in Cardiff, London and beyond.

They also present a show on Radio Cardiff every Saturday from 10am until noon.

Guest DJs on the night will be local residents Steve Kaged and Matthew Morgan who will be playing the best Motown, Stax, Northern Soul, 60s/70s soul and more all from vinyl.

Ms Norton-Barrett said: "We like to invite guest DJs to do spots at the soul club mainly so we can have a dance but Steve and Matthew have been coming to Soul Club and supporting us since the first one so it seems fitting that they should spin some records on our second anniversary".

"As well as our usual club nights, we have DJ'd at a number of events, festivals, private parties and weddings this year and we’ve just started taking bookings from businesses who want to book us for their Christmas parties.

"We will also be hosting a Penarth Soul Club New Year's Eve Party at the Ex-Servicemen's Club.

"Our website goes live in the next few weeks so it is a busy and exciting time for us."

Mr Curtin said they've had great fun playing some of their favourite records at their nights over the past two years and have made many new friends with a mutual love of soul music.

He added: "Thanks to everyone for your continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone.

"Thanks to the Penarth Soul Club crew for their help over the past two years especially Simon Rhys-Phillips, our photographer, Rob Thayer, our lighting guy, Tom Elliot on the door, Shelley's Mum for promoting the night and selling t-shits, and all the staff at the Ex-Servicemen's Club."

Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets cost £3.

They are on sale at Alley Cat, at the Ex-Servicemen's Club and online at www.skiddle.com.
