RESCUE crews were involved in a dramatic mission over the weekend to save two people from the water.

Lifeboat crews from Penarth station were called out at 9.10am on Saturday (September 10) following a mayday call that a 15 foot fishing boat with two people on board had capsized near Sully Island.

Other vessels responded to the call and were able to rescue the casualties from the water.

They were brought back to Penarth RNLI station to be checked over by a waiting ambulance crew and were both declared safe and well.

The Atlantic B-class lifeboat was relaunched to assist the D class lifeboat with the recovery of the capsized boat.

It was towed back to Penarth slipway and made safe by the fire service.

A spokesman for Penarth RNLI said: "This really was a multiagency incident.

"The RNLI, Penarth Coastguard, the Wales Ambulance Service, Rescue Helicopter 187 from St Athan, and the fire service all attended the incident.

"The volunteer crew was so pleased that this shout had such a positive outcome and would like to thank those vessels that responded to the mayday and all the other agencies involved in the incident."
