A CONSULTATION has begun on £75,000 improvements to a Penarth park.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has received Section 106 community facilities funding from local developments within Penarth to improve some of the features and facilities at Wordsworth Park.

The park based on Wordsworth Avenue could see upgrades including new equipment, safety surfacing, access improvements, bins, picnic tables and seating installed.

It comes after a larger consultation on improvements to other parks across north Penarth closed last month.

The investment in Dingle Park, Plassey Square, Paget Road and Cogan Recreation Ground was described by the council as potentially one of the largest investments in Penarth's parks for decades and the plans will be funded by section 106 money from the Penarth Heights developers, Crest Nicholson.

The plans state the existing play area is in "poor condition with limited equipment."

The plans could also involve the upgrade of the goal area with one or two goals with basketball nets and reinforced carpet surfacing.

The plans also suggest moving goal area to increase area for games

Other proposals the creation of informal wildflower areas and enhance habitats to benefit wildlife and upgrading the existing entrance to the park from Wordsworth Avenue with new gates and a path.

There could also be a cutting back of vegetation to improve views of the park.

The consultation opened on Monday (September 19) and runs until October 31.

Local residents, school pupils, parents and anyone else with an interest in the future of Wordsworth Park, are invited to have their say on the proposed improvements by completing an online survey on the Vale council's website or by visiting the drop-in session which will be held at Elfed Avenue Church Hall on October 25 between 4pm-6pm.
