A NEW Penarth business has backed our campaign to support the town's high streets.

Crepe Escape of Glebe Street opened just over five months ago and said that trade has gone well so far.

As well as crepes, it sells ice creams, milkshakes and coffee.

Owner Alison Spiers-Jones, who is from Penarth herself, has said that business has been "amazing" so far but recognises the challenges that are facing traders.

She said: "It has exceeded our expectations.

"The support we've had from people in the town and other retailers has been really great and overwhelming."

She says that, as the new kid on the block, they've been made to feel very welcome.

Speaking about the main issues facing the town centre, she recognised that parking is a hot topic.

She said: "Everyone talks about parking. It's a difficult one because it's hard to park but we don't want to spoil the town with a car park."

Mrs Spiers-Jones said she wants to see people continue to support local independent retailers instead of going to big chains

She highlighted the more personal customer service that independent stores can offer.

Mrs Spiers-Jones said: "A lot of those stores are run by people who live and work in the town and understand the needs of people who live here.

"It would be nice if we could share knowledge, ideas and experience but I understand the challenges of finding the time when you are running a business."

She added that she hoped her business and others like it could benefit from more town centre advertising as they employ local people and keep money in the local economy.
