A FUNDRAISER is hoping to inspire others to get training for a fun run event to support a hospital's charity appeal.

Last year’s fun run at University Hospital Llandough raised more than £1,300 for the All Wales Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre, which provides care and support for those living with this life- long disease.

One of the organisers was Beth Clarke, 34, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 20-months-old and spends time at the hospital's centre.

She is now hoping the second festive fun run will attract even more participants.

“This year we are hosting a tinsel fun run, with last year’s 5k run attracting 66 runners, this year we are hoping the event will be even bigger and raise even more funds," she said.

“As well as the 5k fun run, the family 1k run will also be returning so we hope to see an array of Christmas-themed outfits. There will also be a whole host of entertainment to keep those spectating entertained.”

Boxer, Lee Selby, who attended last year’s event and took part in the 1k run with his daughter, has announced he will be attending again this year.

Hosting the event is Ebbw Vale artist Nathan Wyburn, known for creating celebrity portraits from food, and his friend Wayne Courtney.

There will be a variety of stalls, face painting, refreshments and live music.

All of the money will go into the Cardiff and Vale Health Charity fund to support the Better Life Appeal, Breast Centre Appeal and the Llandough Orchard Project.

For those looking for tips to get them into shape for the run, the hospital’s physiotherapy technical instructor Steve Howard is hosting a training group every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from the onsite Aroma Café, which is open to all. It starts at 5pm

He said: "This fun run training falls nicely into the trust's health and well-being incentive.

"Mindfulness is fun on your feet and we encourage everyone to come and take part."

The event will take place on Sunday December 4.

The 5k is open to those aged eight and over, while the 1k is open to any age but all children must be accompanied by an adult. Entry is £5 per person for the 1k and £10 per person for the 5k.

The timetable for the day is 9.30am arrival, 9.50am warm up session, 10am 5k run (fancy dress optional, 11am tinsel fun run (fancy dress).
