A FASHION show will be held in Penarth this week in memory of a much loved dad and to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease.

Jacquie Dymock of Bromfield Place, is putting on the event at the Ex-Servicemen's Club on Windsor Road on Thursday (December 1) in tribute to her father who died four years ago after a six year battle with the condition.

John Dymock was diagnosed with Parkinsons at the age of 66 before being diagnosed with dementia just two years later.

He died at the age of 74 and now his daughter wants to honour his memory and help others.

Ms Dymock, who runs local business Blayze fashions, said: "There are a lot of charities doing work on cancer but not so many for Alzheimer's and I would like to think an event like this will help raise awareness.

"My dad was a larger than life character who loved his family and was a fit and healthy man who was passionate about rugby and played snooker.

"It was hard to see what affect the condition had on him and it just shows it can happen to anyone.

"A representative from the charity will be there to explain what help people can get and I would encourage people to come along and hear about it," she said.

There will be seven models making their way down the catwalk on the night and local singer John Taylor will be performing.

The aim after this event is to hold a regular one locally to help other families who are going through the same experience as hers did.

Ms Dymock said: "My customers have been phenomenal and have been really supportive.

"I wanted to do something to help and I would like to thank all the people and businesses who've helped out by donating raffle prizes."

"If this event can have an impact it will give me the drive to do it again.

"It keeps me going and I just hope we get a good turnout on the night," she said.

The event starts at 7.30pm and entry is £5 with tickets available on the door.

There will be a champagne reception and stalls with Christmas items, make up and candles at the entrance.
