THE TOWN mayor has congratulated a Penarth woman on her 100th birthday.

Councillor Mike Cuddy paid a special visit to Nelly Eileen Stocker at Ty Gwyn care home on Stanwell Road on November 28.

Ms Stocker, who was called Eileen when she was younger, was born in London in 1916 before retiring to Rhoose with her family.

She enjoys the regular entertainment at the care home such as bingo, group talking and the occasional quiz.

She received a card from The Queen as well as flowers and cards from the town mayor and a number of MPs.

She used to enjoy gardening and had been particularly taken with the bouquet of flowers presented to her on this special day.

She has lived through two world wars and said she has seen many changes throughout her life.

The town mayor and staff and councillors at Penarth Town Council wished her a very happy birthday.
