PENARTH'S MP has tabled a motion to the House of Commons against allowing a state visit by Donald Trump to the UK.

Stephen Doughty has submitted it in light of the new President of the United States' executive orders on immigration and refugees and his comments about torture and women.

It comes as a petition launched online to prevent a state visit by Mr Trump to the UK has reached more than one million signatures.

Early day motion 890 submitted by Mr Doughty calls for the house to "deplore" recent actions taken by Mr Trump.

The motion calls for the house to note the "historical significance and honour that comes with an invitation to address both Houses of Parliament in the Westminster Hall or elsewhere in the Palace of Westminster."

It also calls upon the speaker, lord speaker, black rod and serjeant at arms to "withold permission from Her Majesty's Government for an address to be made in Westminster Hall, or elsewhere in the Palace of Westminster by President Trump.

Mr Doughty said: "I love America. I love Americans. I have visited 25 of the US 50 states.

"My grandfather was an American GI who came over to Britain to help us fight the Nazis in the Second World War.

"I have witnessed first hand the generosity, optimism and kindness of spirit of Americans of every race, creed, colour and religion.

"I respect the office of President of the United States of America.

"But I cannot honour Donald J. Trump and nor should our monarch, parliament or government."

He said he has no objections to necessary meetings and visits but that we "choose" to honour and offer the hospitality of The Queen.

"We must choose not to honour or encourage those who attack or stand against our basic values of humanity and equality.

"We should choose not to honour those who denigrate women, advocate torture and who demonise people because of their faith.

"These are not British values."
