TRIBUTES have been paid to a "greatly respected and popular" man.

Andrew Morris, partner in the firm of Merrils Ede Solicitors, died unexpectedly at the age of 57.

Mr Morris had been with the Penarth based firm all his working life, more than 30 years.

He had also been president of the Residential Property Tribunal Wales for some years.

Mr Morris was a "methodical" and "very diligent worker", arriving at the office early each morning and usually going in on a Saturday morning as well.

One his colleagues said: "Though Andrew was our boss, we all worked as a team.

"We never heard him raise his voice or see him lose his temper.

"Every problem had a solution, every issue could be sorted, and all with good humour, knowledge and understanding.

"He always coped admirably with being the sole male in an office full of women.

"We shall miss him terribly but we are determined that the high standards set by him and his predecessors will continue."

Mr Morris was a great supporter of St Peter’s Church in Roath, where he had been a chorister and took part in pantomimes and musicals, playing the lead one year in Jesus Christ Superstar.

At Mr Morris’ requiem mass, the church was packed with family, friends, colleagues and clients.

His son, David, spoke of his father and his eccentric ways.

Revd Margaret Stark said: "It was a fitting tribute to a much loved and respected husband, father and colleague and adviser to many."
