A HAIRDRESSING apprentice from Sully will be jetting off to Spain to take part in a 15 day work experience placement.

Jadene Bennett, 21, works for The Hair Den, Barry, and is one of seven apprentices who will head to Tarragona on Sunday, March 12.

Whilst there she will work in salons and attend workshops at the Schwarzkopf Academy, Barcelona and the Institute Cal Lipolis, the college partner for the visit.

The apprenticeship is delivered by Bridgend-based ISA Training who has organised the placement with funding support from the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, which offer opportunities to UK participants to study, work, volunteer, teach and train abroad in Europe.

“I am really looking forward to seeing how the Spanish people work compared to us and the different techniques that they use,” she said.

“I have always been interested in hair and I like to experiment.”

Before her apprenticeship, Miss Bennett started a B-TEC Science course but after a year pursued her first love, hairdressing. Now she has her sights set on international travel.

“I like the idea of working and being able to see new places and visit different countries,” she explained.

“The work experience in Spain will give me a good idea of what it’s like to work away from home.”

Joining them will be Cheryl Pearcey, partnership manager and Katie Lee, team administrator, from ISA Training.

The Spanish visit has been arranged as part of ISA Training’s Oyster Project, which aims to enhance the learning experience of apprentices, increase their confidence and broaden their career horizons.

ISA Training, which has more than 700 learners and 550 employers, specialises in workplace training, delivering government funded programmes in hairdressing and beauty, customer service, management and team leadership in Wales and England.
