A SAILING charity has picked up an award at the South Wales Business Growth Awards.
Penarth-based Challenge Wales - a charity which aims to develop young children's skills through sailing - won the People Develop Category, at an event which "recognises and celebrates achievement across key areas of business growth".
The award recognises" businesses that put their people at the heart of everything they do".
Vicky Williams, of Challenge Wales, said: "Winning the award is a great achievement and was a fantastic surprise.
"Although the core aim of the charity is to develop young people and improve their employment prospects through skills development and confidence building activities, alongside this we have a volunteer training programme and we are developing their skills as well.
"So whether a volunteer or a young person we are developing teamwork and leadership skills, communication skills and self-confidence which are important at any age. An increase in funding specifically for volunteer training has definatley helped towards winning this award and getting this recognition."
