THE CONSERVATIVE party launched their council election campaign in Dinas Powys this week.

Candidates were joined by Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies and Vale of Glamorgan MP Alun Cairns at the event at The Star Inn in the centre of the village.

A total of 47 Conservatives will compete for the 47 seats on the Vale council which Mr Davies hailed as a "record" amount of candidates for the party in local elections.

"We have a plan for Wales. Our candidates will be on point and making sure concerns are address.

"People feel they have no control and that is not good enough.

"We will deliver for everyone, not just the chosen few," he said.

Mr Cairns said the elections are "extremely important" and said he was optimistic having received an encouraging response on the doorstep.

"People want a change. They want ambition.

"People like our policies."

He added that the reason they had chosen Dinas Powys for the launch was because of the importance of the need for a bypass.

Cllr Vince Driscoll who is standing for one of the four Dinas Powys Vale council seats said: "Everybody realises the need for a bypass.

"We appreciate the party coming here because we need all the support we can get for the bypass."

Voters will go to the polls on Thursday, May 4.
