THE CONSERVATIVES have won the most seats but no party has taken control of the Vale of Glamorgan Council following the local elections on May 4.

They won 23 seats on the county council compared to Labour’s 14, four for Plaid and two independents with Llantwit First Independents gaining four seats.

The results were announced at around 8am on Friday morning at the count which took place in Barry Leisure Centre.

Turnout for the county council elections was 46.78 per cent.

Lis Burnett, the deputy leader of the previous administration was re-elected in Stanwell ward having previously served St Augustine’s ward.

Rhiannon Birch and Peter King of Labour retained their seats in Cornerswell whilst George Carroll gained Llandough for the Conservatives.

Ben Gray and Kathryn McCaffer won for the Conservatives in Plymouth ward against independent candidates and former long serving Conservatives Anthony Ernest and Clive Williams.

Labour held both Stanwell and St Augustine’s wards and independents Kevin Mahoney and Bob Penrose won in Sully.

In Dinas Powys, four Conservative councillors were elected with Andy Robertson, Vince Driscoll, Steve Griffiths and Robert Crowley elected.

The town and community council results will be announced later on Friday (May 5).
