THE LATEST of our From The Archives series features Cornerswell farm.

Here William (Bill) Rees can been seen ploughing with the traditional method of the 1930s on what was known as the “back field” of Cornerswell Farm which was situated on Wordsworth Avenue.

The Tennyson Road shops are now on this site.

Also pictured is the main entrance to the farm in 1967

Much of Penarth was farming land and altogether there were nine farms.

Cornerswell Farm was made up of 200 acres which was a mixture of pasture and arable cultivation, growing cereal crops such as wheat, oats and barley together with crops which included kale, mangel-wurzels and potatoes.

Cornerswell farm was demolished in 1968 to make way for housing.

Our thanks to John P. Rees for the image, submitted to Images of Bygone Penarth Facebook page.
