THE MUSIC In The Park event doubled the size of its crowd from last year.

More than 2200 people were in Belle Vue Park for an afternoon of non-stop music and family fun in what has become one of the major fixtures of the Penarth social calendar.

The event at Belle Vue Park was the ninth edition of the popular event took place on Sunday, July 9.

Local bands including The Woods, Hot Barbecue, Maddi’s Band, Dave Morris and St Louis Express kept the crowd entertained all afternoon and into the early evening.

Children’s activities, bowling on the green, craft stalls, local food vendors, and a cafe in the pavilion added to the fun.

The event is free to enter and is organised each year by the Friends of Belle Vue Park.

The group says they have had a host of feedback about the event from those who attended via the Friends of Belle Vue Park Penarth Facebook page.

One visitor commented: "My last festival was the Isle of Wight in 1970 for three days, finishing with Hendrix.

"Forty seven years later I’m lying in the sun at a festival in Penarth. Same atmosphere!"

Annette Wilkins said: "It was amazing, well done" whilst Rachel Gardner said she had a great time and looks forward to it every year.

Helen Wilkins commented: "Brilliant day, thanks to everyone involved" and Kirsten Miller said: "Thank you to Friends of Belle Vue Park for organising another wonderful event."

Des Champs said it was a "superb effort by all involved."

It took place from 2-7pm and included mainly local bands such as The Snorklers.

The Vale council provided sponsorship and supplied the stage for the event.

Anne Keeling from the Friends of Belle Vue Park said: "It was an awesome event."

There was a junior target bowls competition and the winner was Anna Powell with a score of 18. 

The prize can be collected from Umpa Lumpa Sweet Shop in Windsor Arcade.
