A DETECTIVE Constable from Penarth has gone on trial accused of rape and sexual assault.

Mark Glover, 46, of Carys Close, Penarth is charged with three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against one woman and a count of sexual assault and two counts of assault against a second woman.

Cardiff Crown Court heard evidence from one of the alleged victims today.

The defence's cross examination covered the three rape allegations which allegedly occurred between summer 2015 and summer 2016.

Glover, who worked at Barry Police Station for South Wales Police, is alleged to have attempted to kiss the woman before putting his hands on her shoulders and then raping her.

The second incident allegedly happened two weeks later.

Jonathan Rees defending said to the woman: "You must have been terrified after being raped two weeks before this incident."

The woman responded that she was.

He asked the woman why she did not attempt to stop him and why she hadn't shouted or screamed.

She said: "I did not want to put myself in that position and did not want to make him angry."

Mr Rees asked her how she felt after the incident and she said: "I felt disgusting, scared, shocked and overwhelmed."

A sexual assault is alleged to have happened in September 2015 when Glover is said to have put his hand down her trousers.

The third rape is alleged to have occurred at the end of July 2016.

On this occasion the woman said she attempted to prevent the alleged attack.

Mr Rees said: "You lost your temper on this occasion and you pushed him.

"You told him to stop and he told you to stop fighting. Did you shout or raise your voice?"

She said she did raise her voice and that she was angry.

Prosecutors said the defendant also sexually assaulted a second woman.

Glover denies all charges against him.
