THE PENARTH Sea Cadets will be holding its annual general meeting on Thursday, August 31.

It takes place at 6.30pm at their head quarters at the top of Stanwell Crescent.

All parents and members of the public are welcome to attend.

Due to the fact that each sea cadet unit is a separate charity, it is a statutory obligation that each unit should have a fully functioning unit management committee.

This committee oversees the financial aspects of the unit and makes sure that the governance of the unit is carried out correctly.

It meets once a month on a Tuesday evening for about an hour and have no direct contact with the cadets.

Anyone with an interest in youth welfare who thinks that they may like to joint the Penarth committee is urged to join as without a functioning management committee the unit would be forced to close after having survived and prospered for 70 years.

The young people gain a great deal from belonging to the Sea Cadets as they are able to participate in many activities which would be unavailable to them outside an organisation such as ours," said Richard James, the acting chairman of Penarth Sea Cadets.

"They also develop a sense of responsibility and of personal pride which helps greatly in their lives both inside the unit and in the world outside as they mature into young adults."
