THE Rotary Club of Dinas Powys recently welcomed their new incoming President for 2017-18, at their formal handover dinner meeting at the Seashore Grill.

Simon Watts will take on the role over the next 12 months, overseeing important anniversaries for the Rotary Club including 30 years of the Dinas Powys branch and the centenary of Rotary in Wales.

Mr Watts had a long and illustrious career with Barclays Bank, with his role involving supporting small businesses in South Wales. In addition to Rotary, Mr Watts is a keen fisherman and beekeeper.

Simon introduced council members Howard Gaylard (treasurer) and Martin Williams (secretary) and thanked past President Kevin Fowler for all his good work over the previous year.

The RNLI and First Dinas Powys Scout Group were identified as Mr Watts' nominated charities for the year ahead.

Mr Watts set out his priorities for the year ahead as being to build on the fundraising successes of 2016-2017 and to make a difference in the local community.

He also wishes to generate new membership and underpin Dinas Powys Rotary Club with a spirit of fellowship and fun, which he believes is crucial both to long term sustainability and fundraising success.

Mr Watts also spoke of his plans for a satellite club, to encourage new members to join and become involved with fundraising and social events.
