A WOMAN who suffered a life-threatening brain injury two years ago is holding a fundraising event to help others who have suffered the same.

Zalehka Price-Davies, 29, who lives in Cosmeston, was in a coma for four days after falling down a flight of stairs in Ireland on September 19, 2015.

She woke up in a high dependency unit and was unaware of what happened.

“It took me a while to understand that I couldn’t talk,” she said.

“Once I was home I started speech therapy.

“I still suffer with my speech as I have a stammer which I think has been the hardest as I look no different to who I was before.

“I use a stick when I struggle with my legs but with my stammer I have had countless number of people mimic how I talk which I still find shocking – it’s happened in a number of places in Penarth and around Cardiff which has knocked my confidence but I’m working hard to try and re-build my life.

“It’s taken a lot from me. My marriage fell apart and I can’t work at the moment as I’m still in hospital two to three days a week but I’m very lucky to be here and to have the support I have.

“My whole world was turned upside down.” she said.

“I had to relearn how to talk, walk, read and write.

“My recovery journey hasn’t been the easiest but I was very lucky to find Headway, a charity for people with brain injuries and they’ve helped me rebuild my life.”

Ms Price-Davies is organising the High Rolling for Headway casino night at Glamorganshire Golf Club on Lavernock Road on Saturday, September 30.

She is aiming to raise money for the the brain injury charity Headway which helped her in her time hour of need.

The night event is set to begin at 7pm and last until around 1am.

Tickets are £25 which includes canapés, a drinks reception and casino chips and can be bought on Eventbrite.

All proceeds will go to Headway Cardiff.

Ms Price-Davies has documented her journey through her blog which can be seen at www.onedayonestepatatime.co.uk
