AN ASSEMBLY member has urged those living with Dystonia in the Vale to seek help.

Andrew RT Davies, South Wales Central assembly member and leader of the Welsh Conservatives is urging Vale residents with the condition to make the most of the support services available.

Dystonia is a condition affecting 70,000 people in the UK and sufferers experience uncontrollable and painful muscle spasms caused by incorrect signals from the brain.

This then forces the body into twisting, repetitive movements and abnormal postures.

The Dystonia Society organises a south Wales support group and this week Mr Davies attended a session at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

Mr Davies had the chance to meet with sufferers of the condition from across the Vale and learned more about how it affects their everyday lives.

Mr Davies said: "Dystonia is an awful condition that can cause considerable pain for those affected by it so it was really beneficial to attend the support group and learn more about it.

"It was fantastic to see the support on offer and have the chance to speak with people from across the Vale about how it affects them.

"The group meets every six months ā€“ and if you or your family member is affected by the condition ā€“ Iā€™d urge you to get involved and make the most of the support available."
