A CABARET fundraiser hosted by The Rotary Club of Dinas Powis has raised more than £3,000, with money going towards supporting the First Dinas Powys Scouts troop.

The annual event was hailed a huge success, with a raffle on the night raising an additional £200 to boost the event's fundraising efforts.

Funds will be used to help renovate the scout hall, as well as add some much-needed catering facilities to the premises.

Such was the demand for tickets that this year’s event was presented over two evenings, with a full house on each night being treated to comedy and music from a wide range of genres and eras.

Entertainment was provided by the Forte Cabaret Group, whose performances included hits from musicals such as 'Barnum', 'Lion King', 'Oliver' and 'Les Miserables', as well as soul and Motown classics from artists like Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, The Drifters and many more.

Special mention also goes to host Mark Thompson for his comedy knife juggling routine that had audience and performers alike, if not a nervous participant, immensely entertained.

Event organiser Tim Hubbard said: “It was amazing to see so many people, both young and not so young, come together to support the club and I’d like to thank everyone involved for their contribution”.

Colin Turner, president of the of the First Dinas Powis Scouts troop said: “It takes a great deal of effort and co-ordination to plan such an event, and a big thank you to you all for your support both before and during the evening.”
