LOCAL charity East Vale Community Transport (EVCT) has received a grant for more than £1,500 from the Co-op's local community fund.

The scheme puts 1 per cent of Co-op members' spending towards selected local charities, with EVCT having recently been nominated.

The money will go towards a replacement for their wheelchair-friendly minibus, expected to cost around £40,000.

Regular service user Sheila Revill and volunteer driver Keith Crabtree went to the Penarth Co-op to receive the cheque from store manager Gary Stent.

Mrs Revill said: “EVCT is extremely grateful to the Co-op and its members for such generous support.

"If it were not for EVCT and its wonderful volunteer drivers, many local people would not get out of their homes.”

EVCT serves Penarth, Sully and Barry using two 12-seater minibuses. For those wishing to use the service or to become a volunteer driver, contact the charity on 02920 705138, or by email at enquiries@evct.org.uk.
