A RANGE of projects which brightened up Penarth earlier this year have won acclaim.

All projects as part of the It’s Your Neighbourhood scheme run by the Royal Horticultural Society and Wales in Bloom have been awarded certificates in recognition of the work.

Awards were received for the community gardening project in the Arcot Street Triangle, the town centre planter scheme and the development of vegetable and herb beds in the garden at the town council’s offices in West House.

Improvements made in the grounds of Kymin House on Beach Road were also applauded.

Penarth Town Council thanked all residents and business owners who helped to make the pilot schemes such a success and has confirmed the town centre planter scheme is being revived in time for the festive period, with the summer plants replaced with mini Christmas trees.

Once again, traders on Upper and Lower Glebe Street are supporting the scheme, which has now also been extended to cover Station Approach.

While the trees were supplied with their own lights, many of the traders have designed their own decoration and embellishments.

And, after a successful trial year, the Penarth in Bloom team has decided they will enter the main Wales in Bloom competition in 2018.

With opportunities for the whole community to be involved in the project, the council said that they would announce how residents will be able to take part in the competition during the coming months.
