The following cases were heard at Cardiff and Vale Magistrates' Court sitting at Cardiff:

Emma Jane Cummings, aged 30, of Trem Elai, Penarth, pleaded guilty to speeding. She was fined £100 and her licence endorsed with three points. She was ordered to pay a £30 surcharge.

Paul Wing, aged 50, of Victoria Road, Penarth, pleaded guilty to one count of driving without insurance and one count of driving without a test certificate. He was fined £300 and his licence endorsed with six points. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.

Ben Darnell, aged 22, of Chamberlain Row, Dinas Powys, was found guilty of travelling by train without paying a fare and intending to avoid payment. He was fined £440 and ordered to pay £2.90 compensation. He was ordered to pay £44 costs and a £44 surcharge.

Jo Alma Powell, aged 28, of Tennyson Road, Penarth, pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to notify a local authority of a change of circumstances which she knew would affect her entitlement to housing benefit, one count of committing fraud in failing to disclose to a local authority self employed earnings and intending to make a gain. A community order was made with a rehabilitation activity requirement.

Andrew Charles Dare, aged 58, of Glebe Street, Penarth, pleaded guilty to one count of driving without insurance, one count of travelling in a vehicle he knew to be stolen, one count of driving without due care and attention and two counts of being the driver of a vehicle owing to the presence of which an accident occured in which damage was caused to another vehicle. A community order was made requiring 120 hours unpaid work within the next 12 months and he was disqualified from driving for 12 months. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and an £85 surcharge.

Martin James Sweeting, aged 41, of Windsor Road, Penarth, pleaded guilty to damaging shelf. He was discharged conditionally for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 compensation, £85 costs and a £20 surcharge.

Daniel Rhys Palmer, aged 31, of Bradford Place, Penarth, pleaded guilty to three counts of driving whilst the proportion of a controlled drug in his blood exceeded the prescribed limit, one count of speeding and one count of failing to surrender to custody. He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for two years. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £115 surcharge.
