A PUBLIC meeting has been organised for the end of January to discuss the future of Penarth Pier Pavilion.

The I love Penarth Pier group is hosting the meeting on January 31 at 7pm in Trinity Methodist Church.

Ms Page, who is part of the group, said that Penarth Arts and Crafts Limited has not embraced the community as it should have and wants a vote of no confidence in PACL.

The pier pavilion was reopened after a £4 million refurbishment in 2013.

But concerns were raised last spring after PACL announced it would be closing the cinema over the summer and reducing the opening hours of the pavilion to four days a week.

This meeting will aim to address a number of key questions including why the lease was given to PACL, an explanation of all spend by the council supporting the pier and pavilion to date and how public money has been spent on the facility.

Vale council leader John Thomas said the authority wants to ensure the building operates on a sustainable footing so it can be enjoyed by residents and visitors into the future.

“Myself, cabinet member for learning and culture Cllr Bob Penrose, the council’s managing director and head of finance attended a meeting with PACL in August where a range of matters relating to the pavilion’s operation were discussed,” he said.

“Another meeting was held just before Christmas and we will meet again later this month to obtain further updates from PACL.

“The pavilion building is owned by the council and I have said many times before that I am keen to see it flourish as I recognise the facilities it provides are greatly valued by the local community.

“What is of primary concern to me is that the Pavilion has a long-term and sustainable use of which the community of Penarth and the wider Vale of Glamorgan can be proud.

“I remain resolute in my commitment that such an important location and landmark should remain open for all to enjoy.”

The council says it is willing to participate in a meeting organised by PACL.

PACL has been contacted for comment but has previously stated it is confident it has plans in place for a sustainable future for the pavilion and is working with the council and other partners to ensure this is achieved.
