A MEMORIAL ball will be held later this month in honour of a Penarth man who died from bowel cancer.

There are still a few days left to purchase tickets to attend Sam Gould’s memorial ball at The Angel Hotel in Cardiff on Friday, January 26 at 7pm to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK.

The memorial ball will mark Mr Gould's 34th birthday, which would have been three days prior.

Sam Gould, grew up in Penarth and went to Stanwell School, died from bowel cancer on Monday, June 5 aged 33, after only being diagnosed with the disease two months before.

He was married to his wife Caroline for seven years and they had three daughters together.

Mr Gould was passionate about raising awareness of bowel cancer and set himself an ambitious £10,000 fundraising target for Bowel Cancer UK.

His mum, June Gould, and the rest of his family promised to raise the remaining £5,000.

Shortly after his death June thought they could organise a memorial ball, whilst other family members ran the Cardiff Half Marathon and hosted a Halloween party to raise money.

She said: “I promised Sam at his bedside shortly before he died that his family would reach his £10,000 target for Bowel Cancer UK.

It was the least we could do for him. If you know Sam, or share a passion to raise awareness of bowel cancer, please do purchase a ticket for his memorial ball.

"Your ticket includes a hot buffet and a disco. There will be a raffle with a chance to win a weekend for two at Cilwendeg House B&B in Carmarthenshire, as well as other great prizes.

"Sam was a brave young man who wanted to raise awareness of bowel cancer, especially with young people.

"He created an emotional video with his friend Haydn Rushworth when he was diagnosed, and he was delighted when Bowel Cancer UK published it on their Never Too Young campaign page.

"Shortly before he died, he recorded another video to be played at his funeral, which was the most moving service. He is sorely missed by all family and many friends."

Please book your tickets by Thursday, January 11 on the SG Discos Facebook page by selecting the blue 'Shop Now' button.

Tickets are £25 per person. All profit will go towards Bowel Cancer UK’s vital research and lifesaving work to stop bowel cancer.

Bowel Cancer UK’s Never Too Young campaign aims to improve the diagnosis, treatment and care of younger bowel cancer patients.

Every year 2,500 younger people are diagnosed with bowel cancer in the UK. While this is only around five per cent of those diagnosed, this number is slowly increasing.
