THIS week’s From the Archives photograph shows Penarthians queueing for bread outside Williams bakery during a snowstorm 36 years ago this month.

Other long gone shops featured in the photo include EP Davison’s sweet shop and ATimms delicatessen.

The snowfall of 1982 started on January 7 and did not stop for 36 hours.

Soldiers were deployed in some remote areas of Wales to dig families out of their homes.

The snowfall covered a depth of 60 cms but drifts were reportedly reaching up to six metres high thanks to the fine, dry snow which was easily blown around.
