MEMBERS of the Railway Path Project Penarth have undertaken their latest clear-up event of the old railway line footpath.

Attendees met up for the community group’s third such event of its type on Saturday, March 10.

The event was also supported by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, who helped the group fill a large tractor trailer with a variety of waste and litter items.

Large items, including both garden and domestic waste that had been fly-tipped along the railway line were also collected.

The Railway Path Project’s existing members were joined by a large number of new volunteers for the clean-up event, with the group’s leaders expressing that it was “lovely to see the group growing and being well supported”.

The group are planning further events in the near future and posters will be situated along the path in weeks leading up to their next clean.

Their other recent projects include planting daffodil bulbs in November of last year along Sully Terrace, Penarth.

The bulbs had all been donated by local gardening businesses and individuals, and despite the recent snowfall brought about by Storm Emma and the Beast from the East, many of these are now beginning to flower.

In January, the group also set up a number of bird boxes that had been donated by Ysgol y Deri special school in Penarth.

Many of the boxes have since become inhabited by members of the local bird population.

Among the group’s future planned projects is to plant a range of native tree saplings in the area over the coming weeks.

Members of the public interested in joining the group can get in touch via Facebook by joining their group; ‘Railway Path Project Penarth’.
