SNOW once again covered Penarth this weekend, as the 'Mini Beast from the East' settled across South Wales.

While disruption was minimal compared with the effects of the weather phenomenon's unseasonal cousin a few weeks ago – which left parts of the Vale more than 50cm deep in snow – it has still enforced school closures across the county and resulted in icy conditions.

Stanwell Comprehensive School was closed for the day on Monday morning (March 19), while Ysgol Bro Morgannwg in Barry is also shut. St Cyres Comprehensive is open to years 11, 12 and 13 only.

All other schools remain open at present.

An 'amber' weather warning for ice and snow was issued by the Met Office on Saturday and preceded a night of moderate snowfall, which continued in parts of the county into Sunday when the warning was downgraded to 'yellow'.

The 'yellow' warning is still in place for ice as of this morning (Monday, March 19) for the entirety of England and Wales, however further snowfall in the Vale is not expected with temperatures looking set to rise.

Temperatures tomorrow are set to rise to around 8C by mid-afternoon, however the warning for ice will remain in place.

Vale of Glamorgan Council have been gritting road surfaces across Saturday and Sunday and will be attempting normal waste collections in the county today.
