INDEPENDENT bookshop Griffin Books in Penarth held a sell-out event with Welsh actress and screenwriter Ruth Jones, of hit TV show Gavin and Stacey.

The actress came to the venue on April 18 as she is currently on a book tour to publicise her debut novel Never Greener which reached number one in the Sunday Times bestseller list.

The event took place at the Glamorganshire Golf Club in Penarth, where 100 guests enjoyed a sit down lunch before seeing Ruth interviewed by Penarth resident and fellow actress Suzanne Packer, best known for her roles in Casualty and Stella.

The discussion covered how Ruth got into acting, how she turned that love of acting into a successful career writing and producing, and whether or not there will ever be more Gavin and Stacey. After the talk, all guests had the chance to meet Ruth and have a copy of her new book personally signed.

Bookshop owner Mel Griffin said: “This was our most popular event ever – the tickets sold out in three days! The whole day was a great success and we’re so pleased with all the support we receive both for our events and for the bookshop in general.”

Griffin Books has more author events in the pipeline, the next two being an afternoon tea with AJ Pearce, author of Dear Mrs. Bird, and a literary lunch with historical novelist Kate Mosse.
