THE VALE council has announced that the scope of the study into the potential for a Dinas Powys bypass has been extended to incorporate a much wider area and additional options for the southern section of the proposed route.

This move was made at the suggestion of Dinas Powys Community Council.

The study will now consider the need for a road connecting sections of the scheme in the Murch Road area with the junction of Sully Moors Road and Hayes Road.

Cllr Geoff Cox, the Vale council's cabinet member for neighbourhood services and transport, said: “We are keen to hear as many views and consider as many options as possible to make sure we find the best possible solution to the congestion issues in Dinas Powys.

“Following the suggestion of the community council, traffic surveys will now be undertaken at the three junctions of Sully Moors Road, Hayes Road, Ffordd y Mileniwm and Biglis roundabout.

“The information gathered will then be used to assess the impact on trip patterns, distance and likely journey times so that comparisons can be made between the various bypass options as well as consideration for non-road options.

“If the cost/ benefit analysis of these schemes stacks up then we may have two bypass options to take forward to the next stage of the study.”
