SP CONSTRUCTION 3 PENARTH TOWN 0
PREMIER LEAGUE side SP Construction welcomed Penarth Town to Pencoedtre on Saturday looking to maintain their 100 per cent start to the Vale of Glamorgan Soccer League season. With no game for the previous three weeks,SP looked off the pace for the first 20 minutes and it was the visitors who took the attack to the home side, enjoying the majority of the possession and territory.
SP slowly started to awake from their slumber and some great counter-attacking football saw strikers Franky Bunn and Lee Carter both hit the woodwork in quick succession. With half an hour gone, Shane Campbell broke into the box and found Jordan Price, who calmly rounded the keeper and slotted home the opening goal.
With SP growing in confidence, Penarth were now on the back foot and it wasn't long before a second goal arrived. Lee Carter was put through and sublimely chipped the oncoming keeper to grab his first goal for the club and make it 2-0 to the home side at half time.
The second half started as the first had ended, with SP looking for the third goal. It came when a perfect Lloyd Carter cross was met with a bullet like header from the influential Campbell. At 3-0, SP took their foot off the gas and allowed Penarth back into the game. Only some great defending and goalkeeping kept the home side's clean sheet intact and saw SP close out a comfortable victory.
Man of the match was Campbell but the whole team, including substitutes, performed well. Many thanks, as usual, to Jo and Dave at the Billy for providing the excellent post match food.
