ROUND-UP of Cogan Coronation senior action from the weekend:

South Wales Senior League Division One

PENTWYN DYNAMOS 2 COGAN CORONATION AFC 4

AFTER after a long break the first team were back in action, away in what was a must-win game against Pentwyn Dynamos. Despite a good start Cogan found themselves 1-0 down within five minutes. But they didn't dwell on the early setback and decided that the best way to respond was to attack.

This seemed to work to great effect as Cogan hit back with four first half goals. Paul Jones netted the equaliser, with Dan Owen putting Cogan 2-1 up not long after from the penalty spot.

The third was a well taken goal from Harry Rigby and the first half rout was completed with a Dan Owen inswinging free kick, which was headed into his own net by an unfortunate Pentwyn defender.

The second half was well defended by Coagn despite a predictable Pentwyn onslaught. Cogan goalkeeper Mark Hussey made some great saves, with veteran Wesley Drew and Jonny Sadler also playing well.

Pentwyn did get a late consolation, but Cogan's fine 4-2 win takes them up to 11th place and 8 points above the relegation zone.

Cardiff City Supporters Cup, Round One

COGAN CORONATION AFC CARDIFF RESERVE TEAM 6

LLANRUMNEY UTD 5

THE Cardiff Reserve Team were in City Supporters Cup action and faced tough opposition in current Reserve League holders, Llanrumney United. This was a very entertaining game full of goals and poor defending from both sides.

Cogan started on the back foot on a pitch that slowly turned into a mud pool in the middle of the park. Despite this, Cogan started to get their foot on the ball and play some neat football.

A great cross-field ball from Jamie Harris provided a chance for Mark Lane to put the hosts ahead, which he took with a neat finish. Cogan for whatever reason switched off for the remaining 20 minutes of the half. This resulted in Llanrumney hitting Cogan with 3 goals in 20 minutes to take a 3-1 lead into the break.

Cogan knew they had it all to do, but are more than capable of changing this game. An early second half goal from Daniel Humphries and a looping free kick from Dave Sadler brought Cogan back to 3-3.

Danny then bagged his second and Cogan's fourth, before Llanrumney once again pulled it back. Cogan again took the lead in this crazy game with Liam Ryan firing a shot into the bottom corner. The inevitable equaliser once again came from a Cogan defensive mistake.

With time running out and the tie destined for extra time, substitute Adam Rees hit a pinpoint crossfield ball to Scott Muir who unselfishly nodded the ball back into the path of Daniel Humphries to hit the winner and claim his hat-trick with the last kick of the game. Cogan came out on top with a 6-5 victory! Man of the Match was Scott Muir.

Vale of Glamorgan League, Division One

COGAN CORONATION AFC VALE RESERVE TEAM 0

CADOXTON BARRY FC 2

THE Vale Reserve Team welcomed Cadoxton Barry FC to 'The Rec'. Cogan have had a very good season so far, finding themselves in third place going into this weekend's game.

The game started with a patient approach from both sides with Cogan looking to keep their current good form going. There were few chances to be had in the opening exchanges, but when Sean Daly found himself up from defensive duties and in front of goal, he calmly slotted home what would've been his first goal in over six years of football for the Club - but it wasn't to be as the referee blew his whistle for a push on a Cadoxton defender.

The decision didn't go down well with the Cogan players, and Sean's wait for that elusive goal goes on. This seemed to wake the visitors up and they started to create chances of their own. With the wind and rain starting to settle in Cadoxton took a 1-0 lead from a well played move that left Lee Ford with no chance in the Cogan goal.

As the game went on, Cogan began to throw players forward only to be hit on the counter attack for Cadoxton to wrap the game up. Final Score 2-0 to the visitors.
