Penarth and Dinas Runners start new season at Lliswerry 8

PENARTH and Dinas Runners started the new running season by taking part in the Lliswerry 8 on the weekend.
An impressive 24 club members took part in the 8 mile road race, which was the first club championship race of the season.
Runners were lucky to avoid the forecasted torrential rain during the race, which started at 11.30am on Sunday (January 27), but still had to confront windy conditions.
Gary Brown, starting the season as he finished the last, was the first Penarth and Dinas Runner to cross the finish line with a time of 49.54 to finish in 52nd place and 35th in his category (senior men’s).
Clem Clement was next with a time of 52.22 to finish in 82nd place and 7th in his category (Men’s 50).
Richard Jackson-Hookins, in his second race for the club, finished in 53.11 in 99th place and 52nd in his category (Senior Men’s).
Ian Warburton was next with a time of 55.03 to finish in 126th and 13th in his category (Men’s 45).
Rob Wilcox finished with a time of 56.02 to finish in 151st position and 17th in his category (Men’s 45).
In a sprint finish over the last 200m Chris Herdman managed to hold off the challenge of Malcolm Bradley to finish in a time of 56.20, with Malcolm achieving 56.26.
Nick Jones, in his first race for the club, was next with a time of 58.30 to finish in 210th place and 89th in his category (Senior Men’s).
Andrea Hurman was the first woman from Penarth and Dinas Runners to cross the finish line with a time of 58.59 to finish in 220th and 3rd in her category (Female 45).
Josh Davies managed to sneak in under the one-hour mark, as well as achieving a PB, with a time of 59.37 to finish in 236th and 94th in his age category.
Seconds separated Abyd Quinn Aziz, who finished with 1.01.53, and Paul Furlong 1.01.57.
Not far behind were Marc Durkin with a time of 1.02.11 and Paul Whitmarsh with 1.02.33.
Ruth Owens was the second woman home from club and clinched a time of 1.03.54.
Rhodri Evans was next up with a time of 1.05.53, followed by John Cocker with 1.06.14, Mandy Barrington with 1.07.25, Lyn Evans with 1.07.28, Danielle Rayner with 1.07.32, Janice Clement in 1.08.57, Andrea Pace in 1.10.14, Anne Wendt in 1.11.10 and Sarah Pope in 1.13.28.
