Penarth and Dinas Runners promoted in last fixture

 PENARTH and Dinas Runners enjoyed promotion in the last cross country fixture of the season recently.

Both the Men’s and Ladies teams won their respective Divisions on Saturday (March 2) resulting in the Men’s team finishing 6th overall and 'safe' in Division 3. Unfortunately the club didn't have a full team for the men for a couple of the races this season, but hope this will encourage more men to run next year with fantastic prospects for promotion to Division 2. The ladies team finished 2nd overall and have been promoted to Division 1 next year.

The club would like to say ‘well done’ to Andrea Hurman and Emily Luke who have completed every cross country race this season, with Andrea finishing 5th overall in her age-group.

The club would also like to thank Yvonne Williams for her support on the day as she was unable to run due to injury.

The final fixture for the 2012-13 season was held at Penlan Leisure Centre in Brecon.

Lisa Cleary was the first woman from the club to cross the finish line in a time of 25.58.

Andrea Hurman was not far behind with a time of 26.25.

Jane Blethyn, in her first attempt at a cross country race, finished in an impressive 28.52.

Emily Luke also crossed the line in 29.58.

Anne Wendt, who passed two ladies in the final 50 metres in a strong sprint finish, clocked 30.32.

Judy Maragna also finished in 35.18.

Gary Brown was the first man from the running club to cross the finish line in a time of 38.32.

Ali Bates, in his first attempt at a cross country race and first race for the club, finished in 39.46.

Chris Nellins returned to form with a time of 42.00.

Richard Jackson-Hookins, who was also taking part in his first cross country race, enjoyed a great sprint finish and clocked 43.10.

Malcolm Bradley was next up with a time of 43.44.

Penarth and Dinas Runners meet every Monday evening at Penarth Leisure Centre at 7pm. Anyone is welcome to attend to try the club out.
