PENARTH and Dinas Runners took part in a world record breaking SSAFA 5k race last week.
During the run Les Croupiers runner Martin Rees broke the 5k record for the Men's Veteran 60 category with an impressive time of 16.17.
Astonishingly it was the fifth world record he has achieved for his age category since he turned 60.
A strong field of 174 runners, up from an average in the race series of 74 last year, were there to witness Martin break the world record last Wednesday (May 22).
Everyone at Penarth and Dinas Runners would like to congratulate Martin on his impressive form!
Penarth also enjoyed a record breaking day themselves, with their highest ever turnout of 29 runners lacing up their shoes to take part in the championship race.
They also enjoyed a raft of personal best (PB) times as months of training through the winter finally paid off.
In what had been billed as a hotly contested battle between club members Gary Brown and Richard Jackson-Hookins, Gary maintained his unbeaten start to the season with a time of 18.01.
Richard was not far behind as he achieved a PB of 18.21.
New member Andrew Fraying achieved a time of 19.32.
Rob Wilson achieved a PB with 19.37.
Ian Warburton shaved over two minutes off his PB with 20.08.
Lisa Cleary notched up her own PB with 20.38.
Ben Baldry achieved a PB with 21.23.
Chris Seal took over a minute off his PB with 21.26.
Debbie Evans was not far behind with a time of 21.37.
A whisker away was Steve Hill with 21.38.
Marc Durkin achieved a PB with 21.44.
Hugh Skipper finished in 21.50.

Penarth and Dinas Runners also celebrated their 25th anniversary by going for a jog around the town last Thursday.
Club members ran the route that was first run by the founding members of the club almost 25 years to the day.
The route starter at Cogan Leisure Centre, went up Andrew Road, down Redlands Road and Lavernock Road to Augusta Road, down Beach Road, and back down Windsor Road to finish up back at the leisure centre.
After the run members went to the Bears Head for food and drink, toasting to 25 more years of running!
Penarth and Dinas Runners meet every Monday evening at 7pm at Cosmeston Country Park, by the visitor centre.
